You know that wonderful, special smell of a turkey cooking mixed with numerous sweet smells that you smell only on Thanksgiving day? Well that is the smell I woke up to this morning! I got up, grabbed the camera, and ran down stairs. I didn't want to miss any of the action in the kitchen! Cause believe me, on Thanksgiving morning there is a lot of action at our house! My nose did not deceive me! My mom had already put turkey on! I'm telling you it smelled heavenly! My sister Ashley was busy pealing potatoes. My dad was working on an Apple Blueberry Cobbler... ...and I....well I was taking pictures! God has truly blessed us with a bountiful feast this year! Here's a run down of our Thanksgiving dinner menu! First, the traditional meat of the holiday--turkey! Mashed potatoes with caramelized onions. (One of my favorites!) ...and you can't have turkey and mashed potatoes without my mom's gravy! It just isn't done! Butternut Squash Bake. Every Thanksgiving meal is not complete without the traditional Thanksgiving fruit. The cranberry. Some people would cringe at the thought of the usual jelly form of the fruit, but for our family, we like to put a spin on it! This year we made Cranberry Chutney! Dinner roles. All this equaling to quite a pretty plate of food!!! :-) Then finishing it off with the Apple Blueberry Cobbler with Ice cream! Mmmmm...It was so good! Even the dogs got something a little extra (one of my dad's famous sourdough roles) due to the extremely cold temperatures this morning! They loved that! I hope every one of you is having as good of a day as I am!
Just remember in all of the business of the holiday, take time to remember the reason for the holiday! I'd love to hear one or two things you are thankful for this Thanksgiving day!

This morning woke up and heard the wind blowing. I thought "Oh great...anther cold windy rainy day." Then I started to listen more closely. It sounded different then it had yesterday. You know...that silence that you hear when it snows... I thought to myself "It couldn't be. It isn't even past Thanksgiving. It never snows before Thanksgiving here!" I got out of bed and looked out the window...sure enough there was a light dusting of snow on the grown. Yes it was light but to this southern girl that doesn't see much snow, it was just heaven!
I've always loved snow so when we get it I like to play in it and look at it as much as I can before it goes away. My Dad came into the kitchen, and to his great amusement, found me sitting on the floor while eating my breakfast and looking out the door at the snow on our deck...yes that's how much I love it! Yes people! Winter is almost here and I hope it is going to be cold snowy one! To you people who hate winter, cold air, and snow I say, loosen up, put on a coat and hat got out and play in the snow and then come in and enjoy some hot chocolate! No the title of this post is not a riddle! I'm talking about the light fixtures in the Nurses building at my sister's school! About every other week I go there to study while I'm waiting for my piano lesson! It's a great place! Has a great view, and also has extremely cool light fixtures! I know it sounds really weird, but it is true! It reminds me of either a magnolia seed pod or an upside down pine cone! Cool right!!! Yes I realize that this post is extremely random, but hey my life is a little bit random! Here is the view!!! Ok...kind of a not so good picture and you can't really see the view, but it is a cool picture right? Happy Thursday everybody! It's almost the weekend and exactly a week till Thanksgiving!
I can now say that I've been to an opera. Friday night my sister Grace was playing in the orchestra for an opera that was being performed at her college. (The orchestra did a great job by the way!) Anyways, Grace had gotten a comp ticket so she gave it to me and we made it a sister's night! It was great! The Opera was "The Magic Flute!" I'm not going to lie. The story line was a little bit cheesy but hey, it's an opera right!? Definitely worth my time! The performers did an amazing job! I wish I had pictures but we weren't allowed to take them...but, if you ever get a chance to go to an opera, GO! It was a great experience!
Grace, thanks for letting your lil' sis tag along! My family has two dogs. One is an Australian Shepherd named Lacie, and the other one is a English Springer Spaniel named Peaches. Lacie is the older of the two and has been going blind for several years and of late, it has been getting worse. She is a sweetheart and is the favorite of most of the family excepting myself! Peaches is an extremely active dog and anytime something happens in the back yard that shouldn't have, she is the one that is blamed. She is my favorite...probably because I'm the youngest in my family and I can relate to getting into trouble a lot! *grin* All that to say, Peaches is considered "the little devil" at our house, but I now have proof against that theory! This past Tuesday I was down in our basement working on some school. I looked out the window and saw Peaches licking Lacie's eyes. I thought it was kinda weird but I figured there must be a reason for it, so I did what any curious person would do! I got on my computer and googled it! Come to find out, if a older dog is going blind, often times if there is another smart dog around they will pick up on the other dog's problem and will lick the eyes to try to heal/fix the problem. Call me a cry baby, but I started to cry! It was just so sweet! So, contrary to popular belief (in my household,) Peaches is not all bad! Yes the dogs used to get into fights, but now they have grown a bond and really do love each other. Come to think of it, that is almost like siblings. When we were little we would all fight and have little quarrels...and sometimes b, and now, thanks to God and our Parent's making us solve our differences, we are best friends!
